The fast-rising singer was questioned at the EFFC office in Lagos. Although the reason behind his arrest is yet to be made public, it might be in connection with his statements on social media which glorifies internet fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo boys. The EFCC spokesperson could not be reached early on Friday, but a top source at the agency confirmed the arrest to PREMIUM TIMES.
Perhaps coincidentally, Naira Marley released the official video of his hit track, ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy’ featuring Zlatan on Thursday. Naira Marley during a recent Instagram live session, urged Nigerians to pray for internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) saying they are the reason money circulates to
the common man.

He said: “All you guys, all the money in your pockets, all the money you spend, you think it’s the government that is making the money go round?” The video has since stirred reactions from Nigerians who described Marley as a disgrace and bad example to young Nigerians.
However, a few Nigerians supported Marley, staying that Yahoo boys were the reason some Nigerians can eat and survive. The singer is popular for his 2017 hit song titled ’It’s a goal.’
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confirmed the arrest of popular singer, Afeez Fashola, otherwise known as Naira Marley, and others in relation to alleged advance fee scam and related cyber crimes. Premium Times had reported on Friday morning that the musician was arrested by the EFCC in Lagos.

The acting EFCC spokesperson, Mr Tony Orilade, in an interview with our correspondent, said, “Yes, he is with us. He’s not the only person; he had some other persons also arrested alongside (him).

“They were arrested in relation to advance fee fraud — Internet-related cases and all of that. Give me a little time and I will get you the details.”

A video featuring Ruggedman has gone viral this week in which the rapper called out Naira Marley for advocating Internet fraud. The artiste noted that the promotion of such cyber crimes impacted negatively on Nigerians abroad.

However, Naira Marley, whose recent song is titled ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy,’ responded by mocking Ruggedman in an Instagram video and defended his artistic choices.
News coming out say Naira Marley has regained his freedom from EFCC custody.

Rhaymond: What is the meaning of schizophrenic? lolz. Seriously, Is Naira Marley saying the truth about Internet Fraud or he should be cautioned?

Sal Smith Bent

Pls leave Naira Marley alone, if the country is good nobody would indulge in yahoo. Besides the yahoo boys do not go about with guns robbing people.. The politicians who steal our money are worse than yahoo boys.
Am I a yahoo boy?

@Bent: I think there are better ways of making money than involving in crime. Many Nigerians are glorifying Internet Fraud, it's quite sad.
