Mr Boris Johnson has been announced the winner of the leadership contest in the Conservative Party effectively becoming the next UK Prime Minister. The result of the contest was announced at the QEII Conference centre, he had 92153 votes to defeat Jeremy Hunt who had 46656 votes
He will take over tomorrow after Theresa May tenders her resignation to HM Queen Elizabeth II and advises the Queen to call on him to form the new Government. He will "kiss hands" with the Queen formally assuming the office of PM.
Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician who is Prime minister-designate of the United Kingdomand has been Leader of the Conservative Party since 23 July 2019. He was Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016, and from 2016 to 2018 he served as Foreign Secretary.
Born in New York City to wealthy upper-middle class British parents. He read Classics at Balliol College, Oxford, where he was elected President of the Oxford Union in 1986. He began his career in journalism at The Times, but was sacked for falsifying a quotation.
Johnson had dual citizenship in the United Kingdom and the United States, since he was born in New York City to English parents. In February 2015, he announced his intention to give up US citizenship to demonstrate his loyalty to the UK
In 1987, he married Allegra Mostyn-Owen, the daughter of the art historian William Mostyn-Owen and the Italian writer Gaia Servadio; the marriage was dissolved in 1993. A couple of weeks later he married Marina Wheeler, a barrister . Johnson's current girlfriend, Carrie Symonds, is also a lawyer.
WHAT COMES NEXT FOR BORIS JOHNSON
The "dude" policy: In his victory speech, Johnson said he would prove his critics wrong and deliver Brexit, then summed up his strategy as: "Dude, we're going to energize the country.”
What comes next: May will step down as prime minister on Wednesday and Johnson will take the reins.
Brexit battles loom: The biggest task for Johnson will be to take Britain out of the EU, but his hardline strategy has plenty of critics.
