Lydia Alhassan, a Ghanaian politician, has defeated John Dumelo, an actor-turned-politician, to retain her seat as representative of Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency at the country’s parliament.Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 39,851 out of the 77,604 total votes to defeat the movie star cum entrepreneur who had 37,778 votes.
Gifty Botchway of the People’s National Congress (PNC) came third at the polls with 160 votes while Richard Amegatse, an independent candidate, snagged 108 votes to emerge fourth. John Dumelo’s wife, Gifty has penned down a comforting message to him after he lost out on being elected as a Ghanaian parliament member.
She stated that her husband put up a spectacular performance by contending on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress against the incumbent lawmaker, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and losing by a small margin.
Gifty wrote;
“Praise the Lord!!! In all things Lord ,me and my household will forever worship the Lord. Babe @johndumelo1 congratulations on such a spectacular performance and making history in Ayawaso west . For a first time contender in an NPP stronghold and closing the gap by such a margin, woooow !!!!you have really raised the status quo and you know what, you deserve a standing ovation👏🏼👏🏼. So babe dust it off and move with your head so high like a king and a leader that Uve been ordained to be. You are an inspiration to many and your hardwork and determination is apparent to all. You are a winner and will always be 👏🏼👏🏼💪🏾,” she captioned a photo of the both of them on Instagram.
