Confusion As APC NWC Cancels Lagos Election, APC HQ Denie

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared as "illegal" any governorship primary election that took place in Lagos State on Tuesday. Clement Ebiri, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, said a "fresh time and date for the election will be announced later". According to Ebiri, the committee had just got the list of the party agents of the one of aspirants in the race barely an hour ago. He added that all materials meant for the election are still in their custody hence election could not have held . On the contrary, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress has said he is not aware of any cancellation of the governorship primaries ongoing in Lagos; thus putting paid to report of anysuch cancellation. Yekini Nabena spoke in a brief telephone interview with PREMIUM

TIMES. “I am not aware (of any such cancellation),” the spokesperson said minutes after he released a statement announcing the cancellation of the primary in Imo State. Mr Nabena clarified an earlier report by this newspaper on the reported cancellation. The primary pitches the incumbent Lagos governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, against Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has the support of majority of the APC leaders in Lagos. It commenced across the state on Tuesday morning after two postponements.

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule on Tuesday abandoned Governor
Akinwunmi Ambode to support Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the two-horse race to pick the ticket to represent the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 governorship election.
Adebule told newsmen at Ward A and D, in Iba Local Council Development Area of Lagos where she participated in the governorship primary of the APC, that she would endorse the candidate chosen by the party. “The party has chosen a man and it is that man that I will support and follow,” she said.

Similarly, Lagos state commissioner for information and strategy Kehinde Bamigbetan has renounced his support for governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his opponent Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the ruling All Progressives Congress governorship ticket. Bamigbetan, who was the special adviser to Ambode on community relation and communications before being appointed a commissioner, is a well-known grassroots politician with thousands of supporters.

Here is what Tinubu said;
"Whatever that happens here today is even beyond me. As a party man, I have to submit myself to the will of the party members. I brought Ambode to the people. He performed well as a civil servant and I introduced him to the people and the party and if the party now says they want a change, so be it. I consider it as an insult, the insinuation that there is a rancour between me and @AkinwunmiAmbode. I have no problem with him (@AkinwunmiAmbode). Whatever happens is a party decision and I have to respect that because I am a party man."

Meanwhile, a faction of Lagos chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) has alleged that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, National Chairman, APC, Adams Oshiomole, members of National Working. Committee (NWC) and host of others hands were not clean in their interventions to have crisis rocking the state APC after incumbent Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, second term projection was rejected by the leaders and members of the party.
The listed people were also accused of been induced with expanse of land and N50 million in order to ensure Ambode have the party’s ticket during the state governorship direct primary election which would be holding on Tuesday. Besides, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and Ekiti State newly elected governor, Kayode
Fayemi, were accused of been forces behind Ambode plan to hijack political structure from National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu. Aside speculation that the NWC members received money from the governor and that Osinbajo had been rewarded with expanse of land to favor Ambode, the members of the party claimed that the two governors were the back bone of the incumbent and that their plans were to manipulate the process.

@Darlington:

Crisis rocks the Imo APC, over the result announced few hours ago which declared Hope Uzodinma the winner of Imo APC Gubernatorial Primaries...

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has postponed the Party’s Senate Primaries in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

It has also suspended the Imo State governorship primaries indefinitely. No reason was given for the action.
The statement was signed by the party’s acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The party also said it had not cleared the former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to contest the Party’s Jigawa South Senatorial District Primaries. It said Suleiman Abba’s name was erroneously included in the list of NWC-cleared aspirants.
