Sanction Violation: Detained Huawei Chief Financial Officer Released On Bail

The daughter of the founder of Huawei and chief financial officer of Chinese telecoms

giant Huawei has been granted bail by a Canadian court.
Meng Wanzhou was arrested on 1 December and could be extradited to the
US to face fraud charges linked to the alleged violation of sanctions on Iran.
A judge in Vancouver set bail at C$10m (£6m; $7.4m). She will be under
surveillance 24 hours a day and must wear an electronic ankle tag.
China's embassy in Canada protested at the arrest and demanded her
release.

US media have reported that Huawei is under investigation for potential
violations of US sanctions against Iran.
One report in the New York Times
said the US commerce and treasury
departments had subpoenaed the firm over suspected violation of
sanctions against both Iran and North Korea.
US lawmakers have repeatedly accused the company of being a threat to
US national security, arguing that its technology could be used for spying
by the Chinese government.

Reacting to the arrest, US Senator Ben Sasse told Associated Press that
China was aggressively engaged in undermining US national security
interests, often "using private sector entities".
"Americans are grateful that our Canadian partners have arrested the chief
financial officer," he added.
The company is one of the largest telecommunications equipment and
services providers in the world, recently passing Apple to become the
second-biggest smartphone maker after Samsung.
Some Western governments fear Beijing will gain access to fifth-generation
(5G) mobile and other communications networks through Huawei and
expand its spying ability, although the firm insists there is no government
control.

GUYS, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

To be honest what they did is right because China ðŸ‡¨ðŸ‡³ will actually spy ðŸ•µ️‍♂️ USA because they are good at that and I love the way USA intelligence works so they have to cramp them down and cut their wings Incase we forget they are the World ðŸ—º power and they need to protect their territory in space and everywhere possible place

You are right Lucky. Though, Huawei has constantly denied that they have any link with Chinese government. Trump is handling this issue with care so it won't affect a recent "pause in trade sanctions with China". Truth be told, China really wants to dominate the world with it's products and technologies

Huawei will soon become world number one phone maker. I like their products

Proxy war. They can't touch China but will try and get their businesses and interests.

Afraid of being spied on? Says a nation with just as powerful a spy network as China. They're just afraid of competition. They've always been

Yeah Jesse, But what if Huawai actually violated US trade sanctions? You think it's just mere claims ?

Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina

Of course they would have evidences it happened but it's still a means of fighting a proxy war. It's who you can touch. There are always violations from companies. In this case it's maybe doing business with Iran that's causing trouble
