Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in October at his country’s Istanbul

consulate, was named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” Tuesday, an honor he shared with
other persecuted journalists dubbed as “guardians” of the truth.
Among those named with Khashoggi were Philippine journalist Maria Ressa, Reuters reporters
Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo — currently imprisoned in Myanmar — and the staff of the Capital
Gazette in the US city of Annapolis, including five members killed in a June shooting.
Time, which has awarded the “Person of the Year” title annually since 1927, published four

different magazine covers for this week’s edition, each one spotlighting different honorees.

Jamal Khashoggi was a well-known Saudi journalist and vocal critic of the Saudi Arabian
leadership. He disappeared after entering a Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October.
The Saudi authorities have admitted he was killed inside the building on the orders, they say, of
rogue intelligence officers.

But many in the international community believe he was killed on the orders of the
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS, of whom he had been critical.
Mr Khashoggi had been in self-imposed exile in the US, from where he wrote a column for the
Washington Post. He was in Istanbul seeking documentation so he could marry his Turkish
fiancee.

The killing has led to international condemnation of Saudi Arabia, but US President Trump and
his administration have refrained from joining others in blaming MBS. The CIA is reported to
have concluded the killing was ordered by MBS, but Mr Trump's son-in-law
Jared Kushner told Fox News that US intelligence agencies were still "making their
assessments"

@Marquez: He was born in Saudi Arabia, though his grandfather was of Turkish origin. His assassination sparked different views among world leaders. The Saudi crown Prince obviously didnt like him because he was a critic of his ruler-ship that is why he is the main suspect of the murder according to CIA. But due to the relationship Saudi Arabia and America have, president Trump don't want to agree with CIA report that the KING killed him. The thing is, In international relations, Interest and Diplomacy are yardsticks in addressing and resolving conflicts
