Information coming out now reveals that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has turned down the withdrawal request of the Presidential Candidate of ACPN, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili. The Electoral Body explained that it was acting on the Electoral Act which stipulates that a candidate would only withdraw from the race no less that 45 days to the date of elections. Mrs. Ezekwesili announced her withdrawal from the Presidential race earlier today. A move that has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians with many questioning her motives for the action. Recall that as earlier reported by Naija News, Ezekwesili who was flying the presidential flag of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria
(ACPN) said her decision to
step down was in a bid to help build a coalition viable of defeating the All Progressive Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the election.

Mr. Durotoye in a personally signed statement on Thursday declared that he was ready to form a viable coalition with Omoyele Sowore and Prof. Kingsley Moghalu to choose a consensus candidate that can win the 2019 presidential election.
He said:
“I have always believed that leadership is about service and sacrifice and today, I would like to commend Dr. (Mrs) Oby Ezekwesili for leading the charge to form a viable coalition to presenting a Consensus Candidate for the 2019 Presidential elections.”
