Many Children Dead As School Building Collapses In Lagos

A 4 storey building just collapse in Itafaaji, Lagos Island. There is a private school in that building and a lot of children are trapped in that building.Some of the children are dead while some have been rescued. But a lot of children are still trapped inside the building.

Some parents have more than one child in the school, some have 2, some have up to 4. The collapse was said to be as a result of a dredging that happen within the area that affected the building.
The Lagos state fire and emergency have reached the place and trying to rescue the children that are trapped. These are images from the scene... As at the time of filing this report, many students are being rushed to the General hospital, Marina, while parents are trooping there to search for their children.

It’s gathered that over 100 students are currently still trapped and being dug out. It was reported that the building was supposed to be used as a residential building but later turned to a commercial building.

The building in question was marked for demolition for a long time. But in Lagos, when a building is marked for demolition, the officials at the Lagos State Urban and Physical planing wait for the owner to come and settle them. That's why demolition is never carried out after the marking.
Lagos is working.
