Mr. Tanko Habila Wisdom, father of late Miss Mary Habila, has rejected plans by the police for an autopsy to be carried out on his daughter’s remains and has withdrawn from further investigation into her de@th.
In an affidavit of withdrawal filed before the High Court of Justice, Ebonyi State, Mr. Habila, of Sabon Gari Noh, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, said the family wants the body released for burial without further medical procedures.
The deceased, Miss Habila, a staff member of David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences, d!ed on June 27, 2026, in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to the affidavit, the father of the deceased said the deceased worked in the Office of the Minister of Works for about three years before her de@th.
“That I am aware that my late daughter served as a Personal Nurse to the Honourable Minister of Works and the Minister’s immediate staff, with whom she resided at the Minister’s Guest House in Abuja and at the Minister’s Staff Quarters in Ebonyi State.”
The ADC Presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has asked President Tinubu to immediately order the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to step aside from office until an independent investigation into the demise of Ms Mary Habila, in his Ebonyi residence is carried out.
In a statement released today July 15, Atiku asked why the investigation into the de@th of Ms Habila is domiciled in Ebonyi where Umahi served as two-term governor and wields a lot of power
He also questioned why the Presidency, the Inspector General of Police, and the National Assembly have remained silent since the story made headlines. Atike said he is not in any way pronouncing anyone guilty, but that only a credible, independent, and transparent investigation can establish the truth, and that the refusal of the Federal Government to guarantee such an investigation constitutes the scandal before him and other Nigerians.
Atiku called on President Tinubu to direct Umahi to step aside until the investigation is concluded. He also asked the Inspector-General of Police to immediately transfer the investigation from the Ebonyi State Command to Force Headquarters, with the involvement of independent forensic experts.
