Anambra State authorities arrested and arraigned blogger Ejike Ofoegbu for publishing fabricated, viral claims that Governor Charles Soludo had disowned his son, Ozonna. Despite Ofoegbu issuing a public apology and retraction, he remains remanded in custody facing charges of identity theft, criminal defamation, and cyberstalking.
Ejike Ofoegbu, the publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, was brought before a Magistrate Court in Amawbia, Anambra State. He admitted that he had entirely fabricated disparaging reports, including a claim that the governor had disowned his musician son, Ozonna. Ofoegbu confessed that these stories were manufactured purely to generate online traffic and earn financial payouts.
